Paint Iowa Beautiful: Library Hosts Open House
On Thursday, October 16, from 1 to 8 PM, an open house will be held at Hawkins Memorial Library to recognize Paint Iowa Beautiful, Diamond Vogel, and Keep Iowa Beautiful for a grant that helped supply the library with paint to update its interior walls.
Hawkins Memorial Library was a grant award winner for the 2014 ”Paint Iowa Beautiful” program, which provides free paint to a wide variety of public service projects throughout the state of Iowa.
To complete this project, a dozen volunteers worked diligently cleaning walls, moving thousands of books, shelves and shelving units, furniture and library equipment to accommodate the painting process. The library was kept open for business throughout the three week project, with patrons and staff being very accommodating to the disruption.
It is now time to show off the clean and warm walls. So please, stop at the library for a visit on October 16 to view photos of the before, during, and after painting project. While you’re there, enjoy celebratory treats and check out what Hawkins Memorial Library has to offer its patrons.
