With winter weather melting away, Union students look forward to the completion of another school year. Though the 2012-13 school calendar began with May 24 as the last scheduled day of school, seven school days were lost during the winter to inclement weather. Because the state of Iowa mandates the number of days that comprise a school year, seven make-up days have been added to the Union Community Schools calendar. Students will make up four of those days by attending school Tuesday through Friday, May 28-31. They will then return the following week to make up the remaining three days, June 3-5. Of course, any additional days of school lost during the remainder of the year could extend the last day of school beyond the currently anticipated date of June 5.
