Marjorie A. Runyan, age 87, of La Porte City died Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born February 28, 1928, on the family farm south of La Porte City, the daughter of Grover and Anna Fredrickson Kahler. Marjorie was a graduate of La Porte City High School. She was united in marriage with Wilbur “Huck” Runyan on April 3, 1948, in La Porte City. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2003.
Marjorie and Huck farmed the family farm south of La Porte City for many years, retiring and moving into town in 1985. After retirement, Marjorie was an active volunteer for many years at the La Porte City Senior Center. She was a former 4-H leader and enjoyed playing the piano and listening to music. Marjorie was a lifelong member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Steve (Jama) Runyan of La Porte City; two daughters, Andrea (Dale) Petersen of Vinton and Beth Runyan of Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren, Morgan Mahood, Emily (Corey) Oldfather, Eric Petersen, Evan Petersen, Terra (Beau) Wood, Brook (Steve) Skram and Kristin (Ryan) Lensing; and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, James and Judd Kahler.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church with private inurnment at a later date in Westview Cemetery in La Porte City. Public visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at La Porte City Funeral Home, 606 E. Main Street in La Porte City and an hour prior to the services on Saturday at the Church.
