Marjorie R. Baird, 96, passsed away Friday, November 14, 2014, at the Villa Mesa Care Center in Upland, California.
She was born June 23, 1918, in La Porte City. Marjorie is the daughter of Eugene A. Calkins and Effie M. Beck. They were later divorced and Marjorie, at the age of five, went to live with her grandparents, Hartman and Alice Kaiser until she graduated from La Porte City High School in 1937. In May 1937, she was married to Marion D. Baird in Nashua.
She lived in La Porte City until Marion passed away in 1960. She then moved to West Covina, CA, where she owned the Plaza Beauty Salon for eleven years. She then moved to Rancho Cucamonga.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty (LeRoy) Lafler of Desert Hot Springs, CA.
She leaves seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion, two daughters Judie Ann Myers and Karen Sue Lamos and a brother, Roger Calkins.
A family service will be held at a later date.
