“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.” ~ John 15:9

Spring and early summer used to be a time for a lot of weddings. In recent years I think the trend has been to move more toward the Fall. Still I can understand why this time of year has been popular for weddings. It seems like love is enhanced when you are surrounded with beautiful flowers and the beauty of creation.
June is the month when we celebrate Father’s Day. It is a day to celebrate the love of fathers, or all those people who played that role of father in our lives. On that day you may remember your biological father, a grandfather or someone who stepped into that role. There are so many people we could think of on this weekend that honors our fathers.
Yet human love isn’t perfect. Some fathers don’t do a good job of fathering. Some aren’t as loving as we may have wished. Some don’t get the privilege of watching their children grow.
I think that’s where Jesus’ words fit in to our lives. While human love may not always be perfect or even good, Jesus’ love is the perfect love. What’s more it is love that begins with our heavenly father. “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you,” Jesus said. The love from Jesus is a gift from the Father. And it is a love for us to abide in, even when other love fails.
I hope you all have a good Father’s Day this month. And I hope that you will also remember this greater love that Jesus offers to all who believe in him.
