Mildred J. “Millie” Webber, 82, of Independence, formerly of La Porte City, died Friday, September 5, 2014 at Unity Point Allen Hospital. She was born October 16, 1931 in New Hampton the daughter of Victor and Rose Gebel Schwickerath. She was a graduate of North Washington High School. She married Robert “Bob” Webber on April 12, 1950 in Alta Vista, Iowa; he preceded her in death on October 28, 2009.
Millie worked as a Custodian for La Porte City High School for 25 years, retiring in July of 1994. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Circle and was a former hospital volunteer at Covenant Medical Center for many years.
Survived by: one son, Tim (Deanna) Webber of Iowa City; three daughters, Deb (Lonnie) Phillips of Muscatine, Patty Keegan of Davenport, Mary Beth (Brian) Brinkema of Independence; a daughter-in-law, Ann Webber of Urbandale; six grandchildren, Jeff (Teresa) Phillips, Mitch (Kya) Keegan, Kendall (Keegan Payne) Keegan, Cassie and Emma Webber and Blake Brinkema; three great granddaughters, Brynnley, Brielle and Brecklyn Keegan; a brother, Clair (Tina) Schwickerath of Maryland; two sisters, Arlene Heying of New Hampton, Doris (Sylvester) Mrachek of Cresco and a sister-in law, Marlene Schwickerath of Charles City.
Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; two children, Steve and Rebecca; two brothers, Earl and LaVern Schwickerath and a sister, Ellen Wiest.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in the West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Public Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at La Porte City Funeral Home, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary Service. Visitation will also be held one hour before the service at the church.
