Each school year, students at La Porte City Elementary School can demonstrate the character traits of caring, kindness, and citizenship by taking part in various school-wide opportunities to help others in need.  This fall, the students and the staff are encouraged to donate items for the Hope Lodge in Iowa City, Iowa. The Hope Lodge provides free housing for cancer patients and their caregiver(s), and it is 100% supported by donations.

The American Cancer Society encourages donations by sponsoring a “Pack the Bus” event each fall.  The goal of the event is to collect enough donated household items to fill a bus. The American Cancer Society then delivers the items to the Hope Lodge. The school hopes to help fill that bus with lots of items from the families at La Porte City Elementary, as well as any community members, church groups, youth groups, or businesses that want to join the cause!  To participate, simply bring in any of the items listed below to LPC Elementary by September 19th.  The donations will be presented to American Cancer Society representative, Candy Nardini, at an assembly on the afternoon of the 19th.  She will pack the items onto her bus and take them to the Hope Lodge.  Let’s show Candy and the families at the Hope Lodge how much our community cares about others in need!  Together we will be making a difference in the lives of others!
