As mandated by Iowa law, the deadline for paying the second installment of real estate and mobile home taxes is March 31.  When the last day of the month occurs on a Saturday or Sunday, payment may be made in person or by postmark (except for tax sale redemptions) on the first business day thereafter. Thus, payment being made for the current tax year must be postmarked by April 1, 2013 to the Black Hawk County Treasurer at 316 East 5th Street, Waterloo, IA  50703. Please include the payment stub or stubs from the tax bill along with your check. If you would like a receipt, include the entire bill and a stamped, self-addressed envelope with payment.

The Treasurer’s office also accepts Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit cards or debit card. A non-refundable service delivery fee of 2.5% plus $1.50 per transaction for credit card or $2.00 for debit card will apply. The service delivery fee is retained by the credit/debit card company and the county’s web provider.

Real estate and mobile home taxes may be paid online utilizing Visa, MasterCard, Discover or electronic check at  Same fees apply if using credit card.  Electronic check is $.40 per transaction.

Interest for the March 2013 installment will accrue at the rate of 1½ percent per month beginning April 2.

Payment by guaranteed funds for redemption from tax sale must be in the Treasurer’s office by 4 PM, April 1. Guaranteed funds are cash, certified check, cashier’s check or money order.  A March/April postmark cannot be accepted for redemptions.

Property owners who are over 65 years of age or totally disabled with an income of less than $21,335.00 or mobile home owners over 23 years of age with an income less than $21,335.00 may be eligible for help on the taxes due for September 2013/March 2014.

The Treasurer’s office in the Courthouse is open from 8 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The Treasurer’s office in the Crossroads Mall is open 8:30 AM – 4:15 PM, Tuesday through Friday.  Payments may also be deposited in the secured drop boxes located at the northeast corner of the Courthouse and also in the Crossroads Mall outside of the DOT office.
