As mandated by Iowa law, the deadline for paying the first installment of real estate and mobile home taxes is September 30. When the last day of a month occurs on a Saturday or Sunday, payment may be made in person, or by postmark, on the first business day thereafter. Taxpayers are advised to mail their payments postmarked by October 1, 2014 to the Black Hawk County Treasurer at 316 East 5th Street, Waterloo, IA 50703. Please include the payment stub or stubs from the tax bill along with your check. If you want a receipt, include the entire bill and a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your payment.
Real estate and mobile home taxes may be paid online utilizing Visa, MasterCard, Discover or electronic check at www.iowatreasurers.org. Same fees apply if using credit card. Electronic check is $.40 per transaction.
Interest for the September 2014 installment will accrue at the rate of 1½ percent per month beginning October 1.
Forms to sign up for the county’s ACH Debit program, where monthly automatic withdrawals from your checking or savings accounts, are available by contacting the Treasurer’s office. There is a charge of $1.00 per account assessed per month.
In September, a duplicate bill can be printed from the Black Hawk County website at www.co.black-hawk.ia.us. Click on “real estate mapping” and proceed to the Black Hawk County Real Estate and Tax Administration site.
The Treasurer’s office in the Courthouse is open from 8 AM-4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The Treasurer’s office in the Crossroads Mall is open 8:30 AM-4:15 PM, Tuesday through Friday. Payments may also be deposited in the secured drop boxes, located at the Northeast corner of the Courthouse and also in the Crossroads Mall outside of the DOT office.
Payment by guaranteed funds for redemption from tax sale must be in the Treasurer’s office by 4 PM September 30. Guaranteed funds are cash, certified check, cashier’s check or money order. A September postmark cannot be accepted for redemptions.
