It was a record-setting day for the Union High School Music Department at the All-State Auditions, held in Hampton on October 26. A total of ten vocalists and one instrumentalist were chosen to perform at the All-State Music Festival, which will take place November 21-23 under the auspices of the Iowa High School Music Association and the Iowa Music Educators Association.

Selection to perform at the All-State Music Festival is the highest honor a high school musician in the State of Iowa can receive. The eleven performers from Union High School represent the largest number of students selected for All-State in the history of the school.

The festival takes place November 21st- 23rd and will be recorded by Iowa Public Television for broadcast over the Thanksgiving holiday. Tickets for the November 23rd concert at Hilton Coliseum, on the campus of Iowa State University, are $18.00 each, and may be purchased by phone with MasterCard, Visa or American Express at 319-363-1888. All orders may be subject to convenience fees. A group rate of $13.00 per ticket is being allowed for groups of 20 or more tickets sold to a single purchaser.

Four Union High School students have been chosen to perform at the All-State Music Festival for a second consecutive year: Jessica Bohnstengel, soprano II, senior daughter of Curtis and Patty Bohnstengel; Leah Jungling, soprano II, senior daughter of Jim and Deb Jungling; Kristen Lowe, alto I, senior daughter of Tom and Teresa Lowe; Joel Wauters, tenor II, senior son of Jerry and Laurie Wauters.

Making their first trip to All-State: Emily Dalluge, alto I, senior daughter of John Dalluge; Savannah Downing, alto I, senior daughter of Roger and Nancy Downing; Caleb Larison, bass I, and Jess Larison, tenor II, junior sons of Jeff and Cheryl Larison; Grant Mullen, bass I, junior son of Neil and Teresa Mullen; Ted Tecklenburg, tenor II, senior son of Joe and Shary Tecklenburg; Kylie Wrobel, selected as an alternate in the band playing the Euphonium, senior daughter of David & Amy Jo Wrobel.

The Vocal Music instructor at Union High School is Tim J. Mitchell. The Instrumental Music instructor is Mike Bistline.
