The City of La Porte City has a simple message for pet owners who do not clean up after their pets: Poo on you. With the warmer temperatures of early Spring, City Hall has received numerous complaints of pet droppings on and near the city’s sidewalks and walking paths. Pet owners in the community are reminded that they are responsible for cleaning up after their pets, whether on private or public property. Chapter 55.16(2) of the Code of Ordinances states:

It shall be unlawful for any owner or person in charge of a dog, cat, horse or other animal to fail to immediately clean up and/or remove any excrement or droppings deposited by said dog, cat, horse or other animal on any real estate whether privately owned or publicly owned other than on the premises of the owner or person in charge of the animal.

Violators of this ordinance could be subject to a civil citation and a fine of up to $750.00.
