Robert “Bob” Wilson died in Scottsdale, Arizona on January 4, 2015, due to complications following surgery. He was 88.
Mr. Wilson was born on March 21, 1926, in Waterloo, to Gerald and Nellie (Gail) Wilson. He graduated from West Waterloo High School and then joined the Army after the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. He married Arlene Wilder in 1949. Bob and Arlene had four children. They resided in Waterloo and later in La Porte City. Bob retired from John Deere in 1982 as the Warranty Claims Administrator. Bob enjoyed playing golf and had a winter home in Beaver Dam, Arizona so he could play golf year round. Arlene preceded Bob in death in 2000.
Bob remarried in 2005 to Joanne Sale and moved to Michigan where he enjoyed a beautiful view of Lake Michigan daily. They continued to live in Arizona in the winter months.
Bob loved to watch sports of all kinds and especially loved to talk about wrestling and remembering his state championship title of 1944.
Bob is survived by his wife Joanne Wilson, sons Reece (Judy) Wilson, Todd (Molly) Wilson, daughter Mary (Chuck) English and two-step sons Ryan (Peggy) Peterman, Jeff Peterman and sister Maryhelen Miller. Bob also left four grandchildren Ryan, Leigh, Melissa and Jeffrey and six great grandchildren Nathan, Kyle, Samantha, Ava, Cohen and Delaney.
Bob was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey, brother, James (Jim) Wilson, and his parents.
A memorial service will be held on future dates in both Beaver Dam and La Porte City. His ashes will be placed with his first wife and son at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
