Roberta M. “Bert” Marshall, age 87, of La Porte City, died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Mallard Point Retirement Community in Cedar Falls.

Bert was born June 2, 1927 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter M. and Ethel E. Greenquist Berryhill.  She was united in marriage with Edward “Red” Marshall on June 3, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City.  She was employed by John Deere & Co. and Traveler’s Insurance prior to raising her family of five children.

Bert was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City where she served as a sacristan for many years, and was a Eucharistic minister and lector.  She was a charter member of VFW Post 3983 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  Bert volunteered at the La Porte City Senior Center and the La Porte City Schools.  She served as the first girl’s little league softball coach at the school.  Bert loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.  Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Edward; 2 sons, Larry (Debbie) Marshall of Davenport, IA., and Tim (Jill) Marshall of Blue Grass, IA, and 3 daughters, Ramona “Moni” (Harvey) Hodges of Jansen, NE., Theresa (Mark) Jenkins of Floyd, IA and Joan (Jeff) Havel of Grinnell, IA; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Donald and Walter “Oscar” Berryhill, Jr.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City with burial in West View Cemetery in La Porte City.  Public visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City where there will be a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m.  Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.  La Porte City Funeral Home (342-3131) is in charge of arrangements.
