Many people want to give back to the community, but may not have a lot of time to volunteer. The American Red Cross reminds individuals that in only about an hour, volunteer blood donors can help save lives and restock area supplies. Blood is a perishable product that can only come from generous volunteers.
An upcoming blood drive will be held locally on Thursday, April 2, from 1-6 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1021 Poplar Street in La Porte City.
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age, (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.
