This September, crime fighting DC Super Heroes, the Teen Titans, team up with the American Library Association (ALA) to promote the value of a library card as Library Card Sign-up Month Honorary Chairs. DC’s Teen Titans want to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.

Whether it’s homework help, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) programs, makerspaces or story times, a library card is a ticket to free educational resources and activities for students and their families. Library Card Sign-up Month is a time to bring attention to the supportive role libraries and librarians play in transforming lives and communities through education.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries join together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.

To get your library card visit Hawkins Memorial Library, 308 Main Street, La Porte City.
