Powell,-SharonSharon Kay Powell, age 70, of La Porte City died Friday, April 18, 2014 at her home following a lengthy battle with breast cancer.
She was born December 28, 1943 in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of James and Betty (Friedly) Barman.  Sharon graduated from Waterloo East High School with the Class of 1962.  She was united in marriage with David E. Powell on June 16, 1962 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale, Iowa.
Sharon was a lifelong homemaker and her family was her life.  She provided homecare for each of her grandchildren from infancy to school age.  Sharon treasured time spent with her family at their cabin on the river near Guttenberg and enjoyed attending school events that involved her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, David, of La Porte City; 5 sons, David (Lori) Powell of rural Mt. Auburn, Dan (Virginia) Powell of Andrew, IA, Duane (Lesa) Powell of La Porte City, Derek (Carrie) Powell of Center Point, IA and Dana Powell of La Porte City; 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Dallas, Damon, Darian, Dylyn, Dayton, Daelyn, Dacey, Dominick and Duncan; 3 sisters, Gail Ginther of Seattle, WA, Cathy (Bill) Burke of Hudson, IA and Janice Barman of Loveland, CO; and 2 brothers, Jim (Suzy) Barman of La Porte City and Richard Barman of Loveland, CO.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerry Barman.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 25, 2014 at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City.  Her body will be cremated following the service and private family inurnment will be in West View Cemetery in La Porte City.  Public visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM Thursday, April 24 at La Porte City Funeral Home and an hour prior to the services on Friday at the Church.
