Shirley J. Huisman, 68, of La Porte City, died Saturday at her home. She was born July 3, 1946 in Waterloo, the daughter of Luther W. and Geraldine F. (Stokes) Pierce. Shirley graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1964.
She worked for Herrick Refrigeration in Waterloo and owned and operated Huisman Funeral Home in La Porte City from 1976-2006 with her husband Dennis. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, shopping, cooking, playing online games, but most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Shw is survived by her husband, Dennis of La Porte City; a daughter, Tamara Beckham (Michael) White of Freeport, IL; a son, Chris (Heather) Huisman of La Porte City; five grandchildren, Casey, Joshua, Zachary, Ryan and Dominic; three great grandchildren, Gabriel, Zander and Ariana; two sisters, Leona (Dennis) Lovejoy of Arkansas, Barbara (Tom) Balvanz of Waterloo and a brother, William Pierce of Waterloo.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel in Waterloo with burial in the Waterloo Cemetery. Public Visitation will be held at from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at La Porte City Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel in Waterloo.
