Shirley M. Elliott Atwood, 80, of Newton, died Thursday, February 26, 2015, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Shirley was born March 8, 1934, in rural La Porte City to George R. and Neva (Pauls) Elliott. She was married to Alan Atwood on February 22, 1969, at First Methodist Church (now St. Paul United Methodist Church) in La Porte City.
She was a 1951 graduate of La Porte City High School. She was secretary to the Superintendent of La Porte City Consolidated Schools for several years and worked many years as a secretary at Ceco Corp. in Des Moines.
Those left to honor Shirley’s memory are her husband, Alan of Newton; son, Chris (Jenna) Atwood of West Des Moines; four granddaughters, Payton, Riley, Reagan and Madeline; and a sister, Sondra Rippel of Cedar Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
At her request she was cremated. There will be inurnment and a Celebration of Life at a later date.
