On Thursday, June 12, the Union Knights softball team traveled to Waterloo to face the undefeated conference leader and class 3A #15 ranked, Columbus Sailors. The Knights came away with a 12-0 loss to one of the best teams they have faced all year. The Sailors scored 2 runs on the first inning, 8 runs in the second inning, and 2 runs in the third inning. Columbus is one of the best offensive teams in the conference as they had a total of 13 hits in the game, with some of them coming as perfect place push bunts and the line drive singles and doubles. Peyton Parker pitched for the Knights giving up 13 hits while striking out 4. Union committed 5 errors in the game. Offensively the Knights did not score to a very good Columbus pitcher who gave up 3 hits and struck out 4 batters. Getting hits were Maggie Driscol, Kaitlin Holschlag, and Peyton Parker. With the loss, the Knights fall to 7-7 overall on the season, but are 6-5 in the conference, sitting in third place. The JV team won 10-0, moving to 3-0 on the year.
