The Union Knights softball team started out the North Fayette Tournament on Friday, June 6 with a 3-0 lost to the Edgewood-Colesburg Vikings. The Vikings scored all 3 of their runs in the first innings off 3 Knight errors. They played better defensively the rest of the game as they did not allow any more runs. Offensively the Knights were only able to get 1 hit and had only 4 runners on base. They committed 7 errors defensively. The Vikings scored 3 runs on 4 hits and committed 3 errors. Peyton Parker was on the mound for the Knights allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 3. The Knights started the game shorthanded with only 10 players due to 2 starters at regional soccer, and 1 other starter still on injured reserve. The numbers got worse as senior NICL all-conference player Jess Bohnstengel had to leave the game in the 4th inning after diving into the left field foul line fence to get a foul ball. It was a great effort, but resulted in a trip to the E/R and 7 stiches in her throwing elbow. She will be out at least 1-2 weeks. The Knights fell to 6-3 overall on the season.
