The Union Knights softball team came from behind to win a dramatic 3-2 game at Sumner-Fredericksburg on Monday, June 1, in NICL action. The Knights scored 3 runs on 6 hits and committed 1 error. The Cougers scored 2 runs on 6 hits and committed 0 errors. Sumner-Fredericksburg started off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, by platting 1 run on 2 singles and a sac bunt. Union was only able to get 1 hit the first 4 innings of the game and then had 5 hits the last 3innings of the game. In the 5th inning, Haylee Brown singled, went to second on a sac bunt by Ashley Carey, third on a pass ball, and scored on a RBI single by Justine Nagle. It was tied 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning when Union scored 2 more runs to take a 3-1 lead. The inning started off with a double by Kaitlin Holschlag. She scored on an RBI triple by Peyton Parker. Parker then scored on and RBI single by Haylee Brown. S-F answered back by scoring 1 run in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Knights started their 3rd different lineup of the season in 3 games and held steady with nice defense efforts by Emma Peters (3 catches in left field), Haylee Keune (1 put out and 3 assists at third) and Ashley Carey with a game saving double catch on a towering fly ball over her head in leftfield. The offense was led by Haylee Brown who went 3 for 3, with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Peyton Parker had a triple, an RBI, and scored the winning run. Kaitlin Holschlag had a double and scored a run. Justine Nagle also had a hit for the Knights. Pitcher Peyton Parker started and went all 7 innings, striking out 9, allowing 6 hits, and walking 1. Jordyn Nagel had 9 assists at catcher. The Knights move to 2-1 for the season. The JV team lost 6-0.
