The Union Knights began the 2015 summer softball season on the right foot with a 3-1 road win on Wednesday, May 27 over Wapsie Valley. This game was rescheduled from May 26. The Knights scored 3 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error. The Warriors scored 1 run on 7 hits and committed 1 error. The Knights broke open a 0-0 tie game with 2 runs in the top of the third inning with Jordyn Nagel reaching base by an error, advancing to 2nd base on Kaitlin Holschlag’s single. Both runners scored on Peyton Parker’s 2RBI double. The Knights added one more run in the top of the fifth inning when Haylee Keune singled, advanced to second on Ashley Carey’s single, and then scored on Peyton Parker’s RBI single. The Knights held Wapsie Valley scoreless for six innings, only allowing 3 hits. In the bottom of the seventh inning Wapsie Valley scored 1 run, but the knights ended the game by tagging out a runner at third base by Tia Renaud from a throw by left fielder Ashley Carey. Peyton Parker earned the first win of the season on the mound going 7 innings, striking out 11, walking none. The offensive leaders were: Peyton Parker going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Kaitlin Holshlag, Haylee Brown, and Ashley Carey each had 2 hits apiece. The Knights are now 1-0 for the season. The JV team lost a close game 13-12.
