On Tuesday, June 24, the Union Knights softball team won a home contest against Aplington-Parkersburg 6-1 in NICL conference action.  Union started off the game in a big way scoring 4 runs to take the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Maggie Driscol singled with a bunt, moved to second on a Jess Bohnstengel bunt single, advanced to third on a Peyton Parker sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Raini Hilmer single. Bohnstengel then scored on a Lauren Barz single. Hilmer scored on a single by Kaitlin Holschlag. Barz then scored on sacrifice fly by Kaylee Sherwood. The Knights scored 2 more runs in fifth inning when Payton Parker doubled. Raini Hilmer walked. Lauren Barz’s doubled in both runners. The Falcons scored one run in the fifth inning. Peyton Parker picked up the win on the mound allowing 1 run on 4 hits, striking out 2 and walking none. Union moved to 9-11 on the year and 8-8 in the conference. The JV team won 7-6 and move to 4-0 on the season.
