The Union Knights softball team traveled to Parkersburg on Wednesday, June 4 to take on Aplington-Parkersburg in a NICL conference double header. The Knights extended their win streak to five games this season with a 8-2 win. The Knights scored 8 runs on 12 hits and committed only 1 error. The Falcons scored 2 runs on 6 hits and committed 2 errors. In the fourth inning, the Knights broke open a scoreless game by scoring 3 runs. Jess Bohnstengel singed, advanced to second on a Peyton Parker single, and went to third on a Raini Hilmer single. Cierra Nolan came to plate with the bases loaded and hit a double over the center fielders head scoring all three runners. A-P answered right back scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. The Knights scored 1 run back in the top of the fifth as Maggie Driscol singled, advanced to second on a pass ball and the scored on a Jess Bohnstengel hit. In the sixth inning the Knights broke open the game for good by scoring 3 more runs. In the inning Kaitlin Holschlag walked, went to second on a Kaylee Sherwood hard hit for an error, and advanced to third on a Emma Rottinghaus single. Haylee Keune then hit a single scoring Holschlag and Sherwood. Maggie Driscol’s sacrifice fly scored Rottinghaus from third. Union added 1 more run in the seventh inning. Knight’s pitcher Peyton Parker earned her fourth straight victory in a row, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3. The Knights defense backed up Parker making great play after great play in the infield and the outfield highlighted by Centerfielder Maggie Driscol’s 2 diving catchers and throwing out a runner at home. The Knights improved to 5-1 on the season.
