On Tuesday, May 5th, the Union High School music department will present its major performing ensembles in concert. The Concert Band under the direction of Mike Bistline, along with the Concert Choir and Men’s Chorus under the direction of Tim J. Mitchell will present their last concert of the year in honor of the class of 2015. This performance will be a preview of the pieces being prepared for State Contest on Friday. May 8th. The concert will be held in Matt Auditorium at the High School and will begin at 8pm. Please note the later start time for the event due to the busy schedule of so many of our students involved in other activities at Union High School.
The Concert Choir will perform their 3 pieces of the Contest set including “Ching-A-Ring Chaw” by Copland, “Ballade To The Moon” by Elder and “Zum Gali” by Goldman. The group will also be adding the extra pieces they performed as part of their set at the Luther College Dorian Choral Invitational in April including “Over My Head” by Senko and “Battle of Jericho” by Hogan. The Men’s Choir will be performing “Loch Lomond”.
This will be the first performance by the Vocal Department in their new robes.
The Concert Band will perform American Riversongs – Pierre La Plante, Fanfare and Flourishes – James Curnow, Horkstow Grange – Grainger/arr. Sweeney and Rhythm Stand – Jennifer Higdon
The Concert Band and Concert Choir will then travel to Independence High School on Friday May 8th to participate in the Iowa High School Music Association’s State Large Group Festival.
