Election Office Seeks Workers for June Primary

Hiring Precinct Election Officials for the June 3rd Primary Election has begun at the Black Hawk County Election Office.
Opportunities include serving at one of 62 precinct locations, a satellite voting center, delivering ballots to health care facilities and counting absentee ballots. Each polling location requires a combination of registered voters who have declared to represent the Republican or the Democratic parties and those who are Independent or No Party. Precinct Election Officials are paid an hourly rate for their work and receive training prior to election day.
More Republican election workers are needed for Waterloo and there are various needs for the surrounding voting precincts: Barclay/Lester/Dunkerton, Mt. Vernon, Black Hawk/Hudson/Lincoln, Big Creek/La Porte and Spring Creek.
Persons must be registered to vote in Black Hawk County. Precinct Election Officials have a variety of duties and are responsible for seeing to it that everyone’s right to vote is protected, a responsibility not to be taken lightly.
Workers will be trained to do the following: to follow and understand legal election procedures, prepare the polling place for the election, determine the eligibility of voters, operate and instruct voters how to use the voting machines, report results to the Courthouse, complete necessary paperwork and close the polls.
To learn more or to be hired to work, call the Election Office at (319)-833-3007 or go to the Black Hawk County website at www.co.black-hawk.ia.us and check out the pamphlet for becoming a Precinct Election Official.
