Boys Tennis: Knights 3rd at NICL

The Boys NICL Conference Tennis Meet was held Tuesday, May 14 in Waterloo. Overall it was a pretty good day, although a few key points cost us, as the final outcome team-wise was Union finishing in 3rd place, one point behind Grundy Center.

Hawkins’ Happenings – May 22, 2013

On Thursday, May 23, 10:30 AM, the library will have summer fun at Preschool Story Time.  There will be books read about vacations, swimming, and other eagerly anticipated summer activities. This will be the final Story Time program for this school year.
Plan ahead for your Memorial Day weekend reading and movie viewing. The library will be closed for the holiday on Monday, May 27.
Join the first ever Big Library Read of an eBook.  Big Library Read is a pilot program in which libraries worldwide offer a single eBook to all of their patrons. The book Four Corners of the Sky by Michael Malone is available for simultaneous checkouts May 15-30, 2013. You can get this free eBook by visiting the Hawkins Memorial Library’s website, http://laporetcity.lib.ia.us, and clicking on the NEIBORS tab.
May is National Egg Month, National Salad Month, and National Strawberry Month. The library has cookbooks galore to help you find new and refreshing salad, strawberry, and egg recipes, or any other type of recipe you might want.
Beginning the first Thursday in June the library will present weekly summer movies during the months of June, July, and August. In the movie Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away, showing June 6, at 1:15 PM, an Aerialist entrances a young woman. When they fall into the dreamlike world of Cirque du Soleil and are separated, they travel through the different tent worlds trying to find each other. There will be popcorn and games out too. All ages are invited to join us.
The library would love to have your donations of new or used Lego’s, board games, cards games, and craft supplies. They will be put to good use during movie, game, and craft days, for Preschool Story Time, and the Summer Reading program.

Girls Tennis: Union 6th at Conference Meet

The Union Knights took two out three first round Doubles matches on the way to a sixth place tie with Grundy Center at the NICL Meet. Jena Boisen won two of three matches to take 5th place individually. Jena narrowly lost first round to #2 seed Morgan Cappel of AGWSR, 7-9. She then came back to win the last two matches, thereby earning meet medalist honors for Union.
