The Union Knights softball team kicked off a home double header with a 4-3 NICL conference win over the Dike-New Hartford Wolverines on Monday, June 2 in La Porte City.
The Knights scored the first run of the game in the bottom of second inning when Kaylee Sherwood singled, advanced to second on a Raini Hilmer single, then to third on a Cierra Nolan walk, and scored on a single by Hailee Brown. The Wolverines, tied the game in the third inning with one run, then took the lead in the next inning with two more for a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Hailee Brown walked, advanced to second on a Jess Bohnstengel sacrafice bunt, then scored when Peyton Parker doubled over the leftfielder’s head. Walks to Kaylee Sherwood and Raini Hilmer loaded the bases for Cierra Nolan, who brought Parker and Sherwood home with a two run single.
The Knights blanked the Wolverines the rest of the way. Peyton Parker earned the victory allowing just four hits, while striking out five.
