The Union High School girls’ and boys’ track teams kicked off their spring campaign at the NICL Indoor Meet on March 22 at Wartburg College.

The girls’ team had early season success with Breann Bader racing to first place finishes in both the 1500m (5:24.84) and 3000m (11:03.05) distance events and Maria Wrage taking second in the high jump with a leap of 5’2″. Other top five finishes were recorded by Payton Hilton in the shot put (4th, 34’10″); Brooke Thiele, 4th in the 800m run; and Jess Bohnstengel, 5th in the 400m. Also placing fourth was the 1600 distance medley team of Lauren Barz, Hilton, Bohnstengel and Bader.

On the boys’ side, Trev Hadachek cleaned up in the shorter distances, with firsts in the 55m (6.74) and 200m (24.15). The 4×200 team consisting of Hadachek, Justin Carey, Kolten Bader and Tate Hadachek placed third in that event, while Josh Clark took fourth in the shot put with a toss of 42’11″.
