After exceeding last year’s goal by $36,000, the University of Northern Iowa’s Dance Marathon has raised the bar ever higher with a goal of raising $125,000 for the next marathon, which will be held March 1, 2014. The funds raised will go straight to the University of Iowa’s Children’s Hospital.
UNI Dance Marathon has agreed to donate $150,000 in support of a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The 20-bed PICU is the only comprehensive health care center in Iowa that offers a full range of pediatric critical care therapies. The hospital provides care in 31 pediatric specialties with more than 200 pediatric physicians and surgeons.
Cheyene Robertson, a 2014 morale captain, says getting involved with dance marathon is a life changing experience.
“Dancing for twelve hours is worth it to me because I know I am bettering someone’s life and giving them a future just by doing something so minor, such as signing up and participating in Dance Marathon,” she stated.
Students and community members can get involved by registering for the Dance Marathon online at www.unidancemarathon.com/register. The cost to register is $20.
