Union senior Grace Sparks and sophomore Megan Gloede have earned a spot on the elite 2013 All-State Cheer Squad. The pair were chosen to join a 32-member squad, selected from over 250 cheerleaders across the state of Iowa. The group will perform during halftime of three State Boys Basketball Tournament games on Friday. Their final performance will be televised during halftime the Class 1A championship game, which begins at 6:05 PM.
Selection to the All-State Squad is the highest honor that can be bestowed on an Iowa high school cheerleader. This is Grace’s second selection to the elite squad. Megan was an alternate on last year’s squad.
Additionally, senior Adria Bechthold will join Grace cheering for the North team at the Iowa Shrine Bowl game to be plaed at the UNI-Dome on Saturday, July 27. The duo will join senior Trev Hadachek, who will represent Union as a player in the contest. All three will be fundraising for the Shriner Hospitals.
