On Homecoming Friday, September 22, members of the Union Cross Country Track Team will be going the distance, running the game ball from Union Middle School to Union High School. The run will also serve a higher purpose, bringing color to the 16.33 mile gravel course in the form of raising cancer awareness.

With so many people in our communities affected by cancer, participants in this run are being encouraged to wear the colors associated with the type of cancer they wish to recognize.

Union High School invites the public to participate in this special event, which will begin at the front doors of Union Middle School on Friday at 4 PM.  Members of the community are welcome to run or bike along with the Union High School Cross Country Team, as they run the game football to the high school stadium.   If you are interested in joining this distance run, please email Justin Parson at j_parson@union.k12.ia.us for important distance race details.

If you would like to volunteer or donate to the cause, Mr. Jim Cayton, principal at Union High School, will be running 12 miles of the race in preparation for a marathon he will run later this year in the name of the late Jacque Cayton, who bravely went the distance fighting leukemia.  Mr. Cayton will be joined by his daughters when they run the Honolulu marathon on December 10 in her name.  This date marks the 10th Anniversary of the first marathon Mr. Cayton participated in for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team In Training.

Feel free to contact Mr. Cayton j_cayton@union.k12.ia.us if you are interested in making a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. You can also make a donation online at www.lls.org To make a direct donation to LLS on behalf of Team Jacque go to https://goo.gl/P9PSxF
