By Amy Kriz, Union High School Counselor

The Union High School National Honor Society wrapped up its participation in the Northeast Iowa Student Food Drive on November 16, 2015. Students from the high school were in direct competition with Hudson High School to see which school could raise the most pounds per student. UHS collected 2,905 pounds of non-perishable food items! They took second place behind the strong efforts of Hudson.
Seven area schools participated in the 2015 Student Food Drive: Cedar Falls, Waterloo East and West, Union, Hudson, Waterloo Christian, and Valley Lutheran High Schools. Between all schools, a total of 37,766 pounds of food was collected! This is one of Northeast Iowa Food Banks largest drives of the year.
Thank you to all the community members and students that donated food items to help UHS in the competition. All of the food collected from the Student Food Drive will be channeled back into participating communities through the Member Agency Distribution Program.
