The Union High School Vocal Music department had an outstanding showing at All-State auditions on Saturday October 25th in Hampton, as four vocalists were chosen to perform at the All-State Music Festival. This is the highest honor a high school musician in the State of Iowa can receive. Caleb Larison, Bass I, and Jess Larison, Tenor II, were selected for a second time. They are the sons of Jeff and Cheryl Larison. Earning their first selection were Kaitlyn Helgeson, Soprano II, daughter of Bruce and Cindi Helgeson and Nicole Lowe, Alto I, daughter of Tom and Teresa Lowe.
Two additional vocalists, Carter Hennessy and Grant Mullen, were recalled but not selected. The Union High School vocal instructor is Tim J. Mitchell.
The All-State Music Festival takes place November 20-22 and will be recorded by Iowa Public Television for broadcast over the Thanksgiving holiday. This program is under the auspices of the Iowa High School Music Association and the Iowa Music Educators Association.
