Michael Ahrendsen, stand-out lineman from Union High School who has been recruited to play at NCAA Division II powerhouse, Northwest Missouri State, has been selected to participate in the 45th Iowa Shrine Bowl Classic football game to be played in the UNI-Dome on July 29.
Prior to the game, a giant Shrine Parade will be held. Kickoff for the game is slated for 4 PM.
Filled with practices and other special activities, the week leading up to the game promises to be a busy one for the game’s players, cheerleaders and coaches.
While every Iowa high school is eligible to submit senior player candidates to participate in the game, only 88 of the finest are selected to play in the game.
Ahrendsen, who will play for the North squad, recorded 57 tackles for the Knights in 2016. He also had a hand in 7.5 quarterback sacks.
The Shrine Temples in Iowa have sponsored the annual Shrine Bowl for 45 years. As a result of the game, more than $2 million has been raised for the Shrine Children’s Hospitals.
