William J. Bagenstos, 87, of La Porte City, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 14, 2016, at La Porte City Special Care, following a short illness. By his side were his niece Chris Wendel and his caregiver for many years, Debbie Barber.
He was born September 2, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Rachel (McCune) Bagenstos.
He married Sybil Skene March 19, 1955. He worked for the La Porte City school system for 21 years and retired in 1991. He also worked for the Waterloo Railroad for 15 years.
William enjoyed music and loved telling jokes. He always had a funny hand out of some sort to give to everyone. He loved to laugh and always was on a mission to make everyone else laugh right along with him.
He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Bogart of Baker City, OR; and a brother, Richard Bagenstos of OH; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his brother, Ray Bagenstos; a sister, Peggy Phillips; and his wife, Sybil.
The family will have a private graveside service at West View Cemetery, La Porte City at a later date.
