The public is invited to join Sierra Club members and friends for a winter hike at McFarlane Park guided by Leon Lindley, Naturalist and Park Ranger, on Thursday, February 28. This 138 acre park has over two miles of walking trails through meadows and timber. Wolf Creek and the Cedar River form the Park’s northern boundary.
The group will meet at the bike trail parking lot at Mc Farlane Park, 13619 King Rd., La Porte City at 1:30 PM. The parking lot is at the entrance of the park next to the Cedar Valley Nature Trail.
McFarlane Park was originally established as a wildlife habitat area. We hope to see wildlife so would prefer not bringing pets on the hike.
The Cedar Prairie Sierra Club Executive Committee wants participants to be aware hunting is permitted in a portion of the park. There could be hunters in the park while the hike is underway.
Participants uncertain of the Park location may meet at Casey’s General Store, 1604 La Porte Rd., La Porte City at 1:20 PM.
